China is opening up. Wuhan in one week. Items will be ramped up. What our country will most likely do is bring manufacturing back to the US because now we have seen what outsourcing has done.
Some sectors will suffer, but it will come back. The longer we close, the harder a recovery will be.
High risk people need to self isolate for a few more months.
A young 20- 50 something can return to work if they want to.
“China is opening up.”
Kaila, China is locked down to a degree we could never tolerate.
And they are not exactly what you would call Christian about it, they shoot their wounded.
China can open up—for a month or two.
Then when the dead bodies are blocking all the streets they will shut down again....
There is no way China can get anywhere near back to normal this year.
It cannot happen, no matter what their leaders want.
The traffic in Wuhan is non existent. Not sure how much tamping theyre doing.
China is also fine breaking out 40 incinerators, burning bodies, lying to the world. They can take a million or two dead over the next six months and we have no clue what theyre actual numbers are.
Our media will have 24/7 panic coverage of bodies in the street, overflowing hospitals, etc.
Does make sense to let those under 40 back to work if they have no pre-existing conditions. Perhaps an antibody test. If youve had it, knowingly or not, you can return to work.
Keep those over 60 and vulnerable at home and work out an assistance plan for them.
There were stories last year the average American has less than $1000 in savings. Even with the one check people need to get back to work.
Herd immunity seems the only solution. People will die but thats the cost of being part of a global economy.
Not sure any lessons have been learned from this. It seems a partisan political issue rather than any wake up call for American economic and medical independence.
Wuhan has been saying ‘opening up in a week’ for over a month now.
Have you seen the latest traffic monitors from wuhan?

Does this look like it’s open to you?
How long do you think it will take to bring back electronics manufacturing to the US? I say probably never due to labor costs.
the question is how long before you move those lines somewhere NOT affected by the virus?
Depends on how long the virus lasts...Oddly enough, other countries aren’t willing to collapse their healthcare systems to build our electronics right now...I can’t blame them.
The computer equipment you have now...may very well be the computer equipment you’ll have for a cpl years now.
This 40 something disagrees with your ‘risk’ notion:

What do you think his medical bill will be?
If one of my hubby’s coworkers, or hubby, ‘wins’ that bill lottery, will you help us pay that?
Im on my way to work shortly - I transport propane from refineries to wholesale customers in the region, so they can deliver to homes and industrial locations. My job is considered essential. Oh, and I live in Washington, todays load goes to Portland OR.
The services which I normally use are in partial shutdown - truck stops and fuel stops. Lots of cars out still, even though things are supposed to be closed. I decontaminate everything that I touch during the day with bleach. I find myself avoiding public restrooms at all costs. My wife stays home now each day - its safer.
Lets face reality here, and stop arguing over the past. The economy as we remember it is most likely historical in nature. Our entire economic model now has the opportunity- and more importantly the incentive - to realign away from China. Stocks will suffer. Those who are eyeball deep in derivatives will suffer bigly- I have the same sympathy for those folks as I do the cryptocurrency folks.
Its time we went back to value added mining, manufacturing, and investments in physical items rather than CPA invented virtual items. Lets stop the infection cycle, and figure out the future as it should be rather than trying to rebuild the past that brought us here. Our nations Founders had the greatest vision in human history. Lets go back to that vision.
Yes, it will be very painful for a short time.
The only thing in life we cannot change is change itself.
I wouldn’t believe anything China says. Wait for what they do, and then only for things which can be verified outside China.
