The power of the Sausage Casserole.
The college I was attending in ‘90 sent our intake on a two week outward bound course on Dartmoor (Alaska without the Bears) in January.
Minus 10 ,snowing and blowing a Hooley.
One night all of us where hauled-up in a large stone built barn wondering what the powers of evil had in mind for the evening chow.
In walk two Instructors and shouted to empty the back of the Land Rover.
Several boxes of food where duly dragged through the snow into the hall.
I lit a fire in the large medieval fire place.
WD_40 to light it stolen from the Land Rover.
One of the group who I didn’t even know had grabbed two aprons from the “Kitchen” and comes wondering over and throws the other one straight at me. “Let’s Go then” he said.
We dragged the boxes over to the “Kitchen” area and unloaded them with all due ceremony.
It was the best Sausage casserole I’d had to date. And It fed 50.
Strangely we’ve been Good Mates ever since.
If your thinking Big Witches Cauldron over the fire ,you’re bang-on.
Never underestimate a Sausage Casserole.
It sounds very British!
I’m thinking that if you can make a sausage and grits (polenta) casserole, you ought to be able to do something similar with cornbread stuffing mix.
Cornbread stuffing is a Thanksgiving thing, but DP forgot to make it at Thanksgiving, because beer. Also, only one or two people wanted it.
