"Song of Ice and Fire" is an epic fantasy series but just be warned it will take you over 4,000 pages to get through the first five published volumes (with two more on the way expected to add another 2,000 pages).

Also, while this work is often compared to "Lord Of The Rings" by Tolkien, it is far more bloodier and more sexually graphic. If that is not a problem for you, it's worth the journey. Lastly, I recommend NOT seeing the TV series until you have read the books.

I like a good, long read. LOTR has been one of my favorites when I had to buy it at an office supply store — it was considered “underground.” I read it every year, starting with “The Hobbit,” until the first movie came out. Now I need a new, good, long read! I’ll look for it, then, and probably won’t ever get around to the TV series. As for blood and sex, I can always underline the worst of it for the next reader, you know, in case s/he doesn’t like that stuff s/he can just skip over it... ;o]

Thanks!
