"I’m going to get on the treadmill and listen to Jonah Goldberg."

Goldberg's true benefit is to those with patience and determination.

That's why most people say, "Who?"

LOL!

I’ve been a fan of Jonah since we both in college (at the same time, but not at the same school). I like his voice, even when he goes on and on about his dogs.

It’s hard to read on the treadmill, because I can’t read without my glasses anymore, but my glasses fog up when I sweat.

I checked the hours for the Post Office today. They’ve changed their Saturday hours from 8:00 to 12:00 to 11:00 to 4:00.

That means I can get the car book packed and get there in plenty of time.

Wonderful!! I’ll look for it long about Wednesday. And then I can send them both back in the same package.

The sun is shining in my living room window again, but the barometer is dropping.

While I’m waiting for conference to start, I’m doing the usual things — DVDs and keeping my fingers busy. I’ll take the DVDs back to the library next week. Maybe on a day of rain, so they don’t get too damaged from setting in the bin outside in the heat until whenever.

I guess my years of isolation show up the most glaringly when I realize people are listening to, or watching, or talking about people and things I have no clue about. Such as Jonah Goldberg.

Sorry guys. I’m still a mushroom. :o[

Are you saying that he takes a long time to get to the point?

Plenty of people have worthwhile and fulfilling lives without any experience of Jonah Goldberg.

I have mailed your book. Now I’m going to plant some snapdragons in the front flowerbed.

I’m going to have lunch/dinner and then watch TV as compared to DVDs for a while.

I’m looking forward to the book’s arrival.

Be back after a while. ;o]

"Are you saying that he takes a long time to get to the point?"

Nope. I'm saying that taking a long time is his point.

To be concise, his message can be compressed into saying that anything you wish to master will require ten thousand hours of effort -- whether it be playing the violin or piano, or learning to skateboard effectively.

Ten thousand hours is a very long time, particularly to a child. But anyone who wants to be an Olympic-class athlete will have to expend at least that level of effort and dedication.

But it works for older people too. If you want to learn German or Greek, at least you now know the price of entry; it's time and effort. A lot of both.

Are you sure you don’t have Jonah Goldberg confused with a different Goldberg, or somebody else with a super Jewish name?

Meanwhile, the snapdragons have been planted and watered, and I spread another bag of mulch, just because someone bought more when we didn’t need it.

Me? Mistaken?

Malcolm Gladwell’s bestselling book "Outliers".

Me mistaken.

Maybe I should read a book before I try to review or discuss it.

So his point is to make his point while letting everyone know he’s being thorough about doing it?

Wisdom must be administered in small doses but in large quantities. Patience is required, on the part of both parties to the process.

Jonah Goldberg’s most recent book is “Suicide of the West.” I could send you my copy, if you’re interested.
