This is my position too.
Quarantine those at risk and let the rest of us get infected, and recover, as fast as possible. That will also help those at risk. There will always be deaths but prolonging how long the virus stays around will also cause increased death counts.
I don’t think people understand just how much of our economy is driven by day-to-day activities. Even rare events, like buying a car, will be put on hold if we’re all in lock-down. So big ticket sales plummet, restaurants go under, jobs lost for 10’s of millions.
The cure results in being far worse than the disease. We’re already getting a handle on how to treat this thing. At some point, we’ll just have to treat it like a normal flu and live our lives.

Such is simply not possible.
The only group that is NOT really at risk for a significant percent hospitalization is the under 25’s.
Even 30+ is at risk for long term hospitalization from this.
That’s the issue here.
If the insurance companies get hit with massive payouts at once we are ALL doomed. Quarantines will cause a great depression. If that derivative black swan takes flight, the depression will be the good old days.
Not to mention those of us who end up with million dollar bills on top of what the insurance has paid out.
As far as ‘get a handle on how to treat this’, those antivirals really ARE a game changer.
That’s why you’ve seen so many articles, today, on how ‘dangerous’ they really are.
The goal is to destroy the economy. Destroy it more than just what a quarantine will do.
The left WANTS those derivatives unwound quickly. Once the rubble is complete they will step in with a new global currency and global ‘system’ to replace what we have now.
I would prefer the county-by-county shutdown method. Any county with at least one confirmed case gets shut down. An entire state would only shut down if 3/4 of counties go positive (2/3 for Rhode Island and Delaware - only 3 counties in each state). That way, while economic activity would still dwindle, it wouldn’t seem to go into freefall, if the stock ticker is any indication. And some effort would still be made to contain COVID.
