“Some coronavirus patients are dying of cytokine stormswhich is not a problem with weak immunity, but is a consequence of having a strong immune system that has never seen that particular pathogan...”
Anecdotal reports, but reported nonetheless. How many? And are these supposedly the younger patients? I think that’s the implication.
Cytokine Storm so-called is associated with various infections and can cause organ damage.
Not much is known as to why cytokine storms take place. Immune system is still very unknown because it is so complex. I don’t think attributing it to “strong” or “weak” immune systems is the way to go. It’s due to a dysregulation that isn’t really understood. Which is because the immune system is so complex.
We might not know the exact mechanism, but we do know that cytokine storms occur most frequently in young, healthy adults whose immune systems are at their peak. In addition, because it is an overactivation of the immune system, I will continue to call cytokine storm a result of a strong immune system.
