There are no ‘elites’. There are people who have money, and people who have fame, but none of those things makes them ‘elite’. Would anyone here want to be Alec Baldwin? How much would you be willing to pay to NOT be Alec Baldwin? Would anyone here want to be Bill Clinton? Hillary? Matt Lauer? Anderson Cooper?
What we do with our lives in terms of personal growth as human beings, our growth in understanding who and what we are, our spirituality, and what we give to others defines us - not how many square feet our home is, or whether we have a helicopter.
And yours, FRiend, is a better delineation of the issue than my terse attempt.
Well done.
I’d suggest another possible description, “Oligarchs.”
They are virtually the same as the despicable oligarchs that brought down the city states in Greece and the oligarchs that are demonized now as the true rulers of Russia.
And if the histories are correct, the oligarchs of Greece, at least, were both elite and effete.
From the Merriam-Webster definition of ‘elite’:
d: a group of persons who by virtue of position or education exercise much power or influence
members of the ruling elite
