It’s not the flu and your deliberate out-of-context distortion of that statement shows you know it.
The flu is endemic. It’s everywhere, you can’t contain it, only try to mitigate it. We have some herd immunity and vaccines. So we have made efforts there, we don’t just let it run free. Nevertheless it kills 0.1% of the people who get it.
CV is not endemic. Relatively few people have been exposed to it so far, and we’re trying to keep it that way. Each case is a new exposure. No vaccine. No immunity. It kills 1% of the people that get it, even with the entire resources of a country focused on containment and mitigation. That’s ten time the rate at which the flu kills. In places where it got out of hand it kills 1 in 12 of the people that get it, once the HCS collapses, like in Italy. The part of Italy where it happened had the best HCS in Europe. Our HCS could not handle a sustained flood of cases. NY and WA are already struggling. Keeping the volume low allows us to focus resources on hotspots, but if spreaders ignore the rules and wander around, we’ll get too many to handle.
We can’t contain it, but we can slow it down to the point where it doesn’t crash our HCS. Then maybe when you go to the hospital for that heart attack or stroke or infection you might get some help rather than just dying alongside the CV victims.
The reason we have only 250 deaths so far is because of the restrictions you are so whining about. If it were up to people like you, we’d be Italy.
That’s what this is all about, and spouting side by side comparisons with the flu is pretty much recognized as misdirection and Panda Propaganda.
