Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 by County
IL
The latest wave of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Illinois has brought the states total to 288 as the viral pandemic expands its reach across the United States, Gov. J.B. Pritzkers office said Wednesday.
With 128 new cases, its the biggest single-day spike in cases since the states first coronavirus case was confirmed Jan. 24, and officials say it will rise exponentially as more testing becomes available.
Some of you might look at the illnesses and death in other countries and think, well that couldnt happen here, Pritzker said in a live-streamed address from a courtroom in downstate Murphysboro...
...Some of those patients have recovered, but the first death in Illinois attributed to the pandemic was reported Tuesday after a 61-year-old South Side woman died at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Cases extended to two new counties, Kendall and Madison, bringing the virus reach to a total of 17 counties, according to the state Department of Public Health. Ages of the patients range from 9 to 91.
There were also 20 new cases at a DuPage nursing home that has now reached 42 cases 30 residents and 12 staffers.
The number also includes patients from DePaul University, Columbia College and the University of Chicago, which each reported earlier in the day that students, staffers or faculty members had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
