Before you compare infection and mortality rates with Italy you should first compare health care systems. Italy’s socialized healthcare system is strained during a normal flu season. Beyond that, their population is aging, and they’ve been selling themselves to China for the past 15-20 years. There are LOTS of Chinese nationals living in Italy now and LOTS of people traveling back and forth between Italy and China. You see it in the street shops in every major city in Italy that sell everything from candy bars to sofas, always with a Chinese national sitting behind the counter. The same is true in Iran, except Iran’s healthcare system is more like vintage 8th Century.
Fair points. I think I saw a report last evening that suggested it’s also running wild in Syria, which may also have a suspect health care system, I’d imagine.
The number of cases would OVERWHELM OUR MEDICAL SYSTEM!
