So we went from recommended "social distancing" and extra hand washing on Thursday to now forced closures of all public restaurants. All in 72 hours.

What's next? Military in the streets enforcing curfews and lockdowns and shoot anyone that steps outside?

How do you expect people to stay calm with so many politicians freaking out? California, Ohio, and Illinois want to close all bars and restaurants. Gov. Cuomo wants the military called up. Some cities are talking about curfews.

This is quickly escalating out of control. And the result of this panic is going to be worse than the disease.

DeWine’s reaction seems over the top kneejerk. Why not do what Michigan is doing and just do it for effected counties? Areas?

All I can figure is that this thing is a bio-weapon and the authorities don't know what exactly it is designed to do. Only that it has a lot of "gain" over normal SARS.

Tinfoil off.

I’m guessing these closings are an attempt to slow down the virus
to allow more time for vaccine development to catch up.

I agree. Lockdowns could be next. Then unrest. Then martial law. Unbelievable.

People are freaking out because people keep yakking about it...especially here.

Free Republic is the epicenter, the epitome, of Coronavirus hysteria and panic. No one yanks about the flu, and no one freaks out.

How will these places survive? How will employees feed their families, who will make them whole? These over reactions are more dangerous than the virus. In the past 3 weeks we have flown, gone to 2 different casinos, several restaurants and stores, rest areas, and hotels. Kept our distance and washed our hands. Saw nobody showing symptoms and we came across thousands of people! This is over reach by a government deep state that was losing control. People need to get a grip! A couple thousand cases is nothing.

Illinois is closing dine-in only thru the 30th, which makes sense to balance risk vs economic impact by allowing some businesses to stay in operation.

The slippery slope of big socialist government gets steeper and more slick. The business owner is not in charge of his or her business, the government is. Who pays the costs? The owner and employees. Not the government.

Defy an irrational and unnecessary government edict. Stay open.

" DeWine then stressed the critical need for social distancing especially with one of the year's biggest bar days - St. Patrick's Day - coming up Tuesday, March 17.

Yes, one of the biggest beer drinking weeks of the year.

Bars and restaurants would have been filled on Tuesday and all weekend with once a year Irish.

These bar and restaurants will have already purchased or ordered their beer for next week.

Breweries will have already made the beer.

Draft beer has a relatively short shelf life. It will not keep for a month and breweries will not have the extra cooler space to store this beer for a month.

The Microbreweries will be especially hit because most of them do not have bottling facilities to can or bottle the beer that they made for this coming week’s festivities.

I suspect some brewpubs and micro-breweries will not survive this political pestilence.

I have adapted this from a lecture I attended this week to add some perspective.

COVID-19 rarely seems to cause typical “common cold” symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, or sore throat (these have been observed in about 5% of patients.)

It is impossible to know if a patient has the flu or the COVID-19 virus according to symptoms alone.

80.9% of cases are mild and can recover at home.
13.8% are severe, developing severe diseases including pneumonia and shortness of breath.
4.7% are critical and can include: respiratory failure, septic shock, and multi-organ failure.
About 2% of reported cases of the virus have been fatal.

It is interesting to look at Fatality Rate vs. Age (keep in mind these can change.)
Fatality Rate all cases
80+ years old 14.8%
70 – 79 years old 8.0%
60 – 69 years old 3.6%
50 – 59 years old 1.3%
40 – 49 years old 0.4%
30 – 39 years old 0.2%
20 – 29 years old 0.2%
10 – 19 years old 0.2%
0 – 9 years old no fatalities
Very few cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in children.

With all this going on, it would
be a perfect time to implement the
“Green New Deal”. No cars moving
people to their jobs, no trucks
delivering food, no planes flying.
All this fear mongering is going
to be devastating to our economy.
These idiot Govenors are doing
this to bring down our president.

DeWine is being screwed by Amy Acton.. and this is going to hurt Ohio Republican chances.. by attempting to create a panic and perhaps a meltdown in Ohio. She should be replaced immediately.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3824053/posts

“I am not saying there are absolutely for certain 100,000 people,” Dr. Amy Acton, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, said at a press conference Friday. “I’m saying I’m guesstimating. If I’m guesstimating community spread, that’s my best number.”
