Hughes insisted on using tissues to pick up objects to insulate himself from germs. He would also notice dust, stains, or other imperfections on people’s clothes and demand that they take care of them
And your point is?
Considering how compromised Hughes immune system had become, for real, his OCD about germs (which expanded from his well known demanding perfection in his aircraft/engineering/piloting/ and design work) was to his benefit.
Managed (and ripped off) by his Mormons, ever present in the casino business (and the licensing boards, on the take), who allowed all kinds of opiates and the things that killed him, aside from his degraded mental status.
In the first episode of "Wings", there's a great scene where someone mentions that HH kept his fingernail clippings in a jar. The quasi-idiot airplane mechanic Lowell (perfectly played by Thomas Haden Church) says "Isn't it interesting how some people have the same habits." The guy says, "Lowell, he keeps his urine in bottles." "Lowell: This is incredible!" and walks off, shaking his head.
