the larger point is...this holds consistent with other countries which have a much larger number of cases.

The rate of discovery of cases is NOT equal to the rate of spread of the virus. It’s dependent mostly on how much testing is done.
The rate of spread of the virus is estimated at about doubling every week, not every two days.
That isn’t good news! It means there are already a large number of unfound cases.
The ‘doubling every 7 (or so) days applies to a larger number than the ‘doubling every 2 days’ does.
