Good probability is rising cases but the virus does not get foothold and see critical mass this season
Seems to be where efforts are directed.
Fauci is only stating the obvious. We will see more cases and things will get worse. How much worse is really unknowable at this point as everyone is working on very much partial information which is always a dangerous thing
Guarded optimism combined with situational awareness is probably best course of action

I never said the sky was falling. I stated an uncontestable fact. It's at the beginning stage of a global pandemic. The problem is that some people aren't able to project what that means into the future and are in denial.
Is it the end of the world? Is civilization going to collapse? Of course not. That's stupid. But so is dismissing it because more people have died of something else this week.

My issue is confirmation bias. Every case and every death is being reported. If that was done with the flu, there would be panic in the streets. The Trumphater media is all over this like Mueller and Impeachment. So, I just can’t find credible sources to figure out how big a problem this really is.

This could be contained IF everyone acted responsibly. Unfortunately, some people don't.
Take for example the New Rochelle lawyer who was asked to self-quarantine. He didn't. He decided he felt well enough to go to a couple events. New Rochelle is now under quarantine because one person decided basic health and safety procedures didn't apply to him.
There are others who think just him.

It’s hardly a hysterical notion that someone who claims there is no problem would die of said problem.

There is a large contingent convinced the entire virus is a worldwide conspiracy against Trump.
If a meteor was projected to hit the earth in August they’d think it was an intergalactic conspiracy against Trump.

There are side benefits to the crisis:
- By November, Trump can brag about 10% GDP growth in Q3 and 200% stock market rise
- Potential to rid the nation of many pathogens via quarantining and better general hygiene
- Repatriation of key industries to US manufacturing base
- Stronger immigration controls
- Fewer Chinese spies
Just a start.
Hopefully people will wake up and realize that Globalization was doomed to failure. And recognize the importance of Borders, Language and Culture.

There are a lot of people who are unaware of how pissed a lot of high level Chinese are at Trump.
Doesn’t mean they did this, but it does separate things from the meteor scenario.
The major difference is there is a vaccine for the flu and medicine therapies like Tamiflu. Our only defense against Covid 19 is our immune systems.
