“Dr. Osterholm from CIDRAP in MN - world reknowned kind of guy - has stated point blank that he thinks the encouraging of hand washing is mainly bogus, and that in fact he thinks BREATHING is the main form of transmission. It explains the Shincheonji church “auntie” who spread to so many people so fast, as well as the Biogen in Boston where 3 guys infected 70.”

Yea, I’ve concluded the same. Hand washing and ‘sanitizing’ is fine as a placebo and might be useful if a vector actually does spray a surface. But overall, it’s like recycling - you feel good because you’ve done your part, but you’re never told that what you threw in those bins gets dumped in the Pacific by China.

Please provide a link for a link for this. That's important information that should have a primary source provided.

Thanks!

Bob:

I think it is a little more complicated.

Breathing is a more effective method of transmission, absolutely no doubt about that.

Touching is a less effective method, but since we touch so many surfaces that increases the likelihood of getting it from surfaces.

During the 1918 epidemic people started to get very serious about the social distancing thing, but the mail kept spreading the disease....

It is all probabilities....the virus will get you a lot of different ways.

Yeah it’s better than nothing, to be sure. I just picked up groceries from Walmart pickup. Didn’t get near the guy (they will sign for you if you ask!) - opened trunk, in they went, said thanks and off the nice guy went. Encouraged him to stay safe!

But when I got home after touching the boxes, etc - left them on stairs until tomorrow, and went upstairs and washed hands like crazy.

My problem isn’t with washing hands. It’s with people misunderstanding that it will somehow keep them safe - which has been a MANTRA for weeks. It will not, in fact, keep anybody safe - only social distancing can truly do that.
