Does anyone know if positive tests for the flu are ever preserved? I would expect the great bulk would be disposed as medical waste, but if any are preserved, could those collected in Sept-Dec 2019 be tested again to determine if the Wuhan coronavirus was already in the USA then?

And is there a way to test for antibodies cheaply and quickly? If so, and if a significant percentage of the US has those antibodies, perhaps the panic curve can be bent down sooner.
