I absolutely agree.
I’ve already had the discussion with our Pastor, and our technical department is working on a solution for streaming. Nobody has to attend physically. Most of our congregation is old and some are definitely not healthy, so they are low hanging fruit for this disease.
And to be perfectly blunt, there is no evidence that kids don’t catch it - to the contrary, there are numerous examples of people of all ages testing positive. They just aren’t as likely to die from it. That won’t stop them from spreading it just like anybody else. More.
Lovable little disease reservoirs that they are.
Our church already does the livestreaming and stuff. We got up on Sunday in order to watch it live. (You can also watch the entire service later in the week). But it was cool to watch it live knowing that many others were too (over 800 people).
Some of it was geared towards the fear of the virus, but also knowing that God IS sovereign over all.
Hopefully this won't last as long as I think it will. But even just this week I have been thinking of how things were “B.C.” Before Corona.
My son lost one of his jobs, my daughter might be next, and if I or my wife get sick, she will lose her job taking care of elderly people. And add in the stress of decontamination procedures of the cars and us coming into the house.
Even worse when the kids visit as they don't take it seriously.
OTOH, our pastor has been reminding us to take care of our members in the church and our neighbors - during the Black Plague the Christians did this, and many people learned of God's love for them.
He's always said that the Pacific Northwest has never had a spiritual revival like the other parts of the nation has had at various times. He hasn't said it (yet) - but perhaps this is the beginning. Not that God caused this terrible virus to happen - but He can turn it to good.
