Hillary was in trouble from the start because there was little to no “swing” with her; everybody knew her, and either loved her or hated her - and not enough people loved her.
Trump in a political sense WAS an unknown quantity; not enough people hated him, and enough were willing to take a chance on him.
Seems you have pretty much hit the nail on the head. Whether it’s a man or a woman you are trying to help, the first thing the candidate must have is a sensible platform. If they lack that, the rest doesn’t matter.
