Wasn’t that long ago that some modern historians were arguing that a significant chunk of Washington’s Continental Army were freed blacks. I seem to remember a figure of 20%? That’s something I wasn’t taught in public schools.
I wonder how the 1619 Project authors would twist their arguments to account for that?
From what I have read, about 5,000-9,000 blacks served in the Continental Army and Navy. About 20,000 blacks served in the British Army and Royal Navy.
