the thing about China is that it supplies us with far TOO MANY items....and the virus is hitting them the hardest....their production will diminish and then we'll have empty shelves......... the supply chain will stop and then we will have panic....and THAT my friends, is why you prepare....

Thank you

” (except for TP which the females in the house seem to burn through but I’ll fix that tomorrow)”

Just how big is your garage?

It’s just not possible to buy enough TP for 3 months with wimmins in the house.

Not possible.

Amen and why we should NOT depend on China or other countries for trade to fix our crisis.

It is a National Security issue to keep companies here, and the U.S. government should be extremely friendly to all businesses. Meaning cut taxes almost to zero, cut regulations and encourage new businesses start up here.

Plenty of asians here at my costco in Jax. None that I could tell were stocking up. Seems to be the disaster prep hobbyists and speculators pushing this thing. Not that there is anything wrong with prepping in general. Anyway, I’ve got batteries stocked from the Hurricane seasons. Got some kleenex and soap on sale at Aldi today in prep.

Florida spring break hotel and car rental rates have not dipped at all. That makes me think most people have no intention of changing their plans due to this bug.

45,734 Cases which had an outcome
42,733 (93%) Recovered / Discharged

3,001 (7%) Deaths

Is that right? Is that a 7% Case Fatality rate?

Yes, that is correct, BUT... there are so many factors that we can’t yet account for, including, among others:

1. There are probably many, many, many undiagnosed cases that are mild enough not to be counted.
2. The vast majority of cases are in China, and the numbers are, by definition, unreliable. For example, China’s numbers have remained virtually unchanged for days. I’m thinking they have simply stopped really counting and reporting.
3. Picking up on #2, their health care system is completely overwhelmed.
4. A more advanced health care system and open government will be able (at least theoretically) to respond more effectively than China’s.
5. Other countries are forewarned. And forewarned is forearmed.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned I believe we should be very concerned. But frankly, my preparations are centered more around the inevitable supply chain disruptions than around avoiding/treating the virus.

We are in the Seattle area a few miles from the most recent cases. The church service that many of the older people go to was down by perhaps 25%.

We did change protocol for Communion and offering in wake of the virus.

I interpreted it to mean that any virus that results in pneumonia for seniors is a problem. This specific virus is no different. Pneumonia is a concern. So, just as with the flu complications can result ,

I think this is what level headed health professionals have been trying to say for some time now.

You forgot South Korea.

I think South Korea is the best indicator how the virus will act in the US big cities, they have a very health system. South Korea is also very good at documenting numbers.

When I visited Italy and Spain I was not impress at all.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: U.S. Coronavirus Outbreak Widens: Rhode Island confirms its first case of the virus, while number of cases in King County, Wash., rises to six. “New cases of the novel coronavirus in Washington, California and Rhode Island on Sunday raised fears of a wider spread of the disease in U.S. communities, prompting federal officials to ramp up efforts to test for and fight the widening outbreak. Health officials are focused on a cluster of confirmed cases in Washington state where some patients had no clear path to exposure, including the first death from the virus in the U.S. Those cases, and several others in Oregon and California signal that there might be wider spread of the virus in some American communities with many cases still undiagnosed.”

Nor was it clear how significant or systemic the contamination concerns may be; whether it was a one-time issue that’s easily resolved, or a broader concern involving protocols, safeguards or leadership.” Flashback: You had one job, CDC.

If so , it seems to me that they could do a much better job of it some other way
