If the President could get 15% for the African-American community it would mean curtains for the Dem coalition.

BTW, the GOP regularly got a significant portion of the African-American vote till 1960. That changed when Vice President Nixon refused to call Martin Luther King, who was then in jail for protesting segregation. The Kennedys called, intervened, and got King released. This spread through the African-American community and the GOP share of the vote was never the same.
