“So is this how it is going to go, start a new brush fire of panic with every single case as it pops up?”

Who could expect anything less from Trump’s enemies.

If the CDC had their act together we would not be in this messaging war and MESS.

We throw red meat on the table and expect the enemy not to eat? That would be pretty dumb.

Real Politik 101.

It’s certainly not going under the radar in Italy and the only reported deaths today were very elderly. 4 77+ years olds. And that’s with hundreds of reported cases.

They are testing in Italy. I don’t think those nearly 900 confirmed cases just caught it yesterday. It’s had time to spread and for severe cases to develop. But they weren’t reporting deaths until a week ago. Who knows how many actually went under the radar there until they had a surge and started testing. IIRC Italy did not shut down travel from China as early as we did, so it is possible they had a larger influx of cases to begin with, thus the more cases to deal with and the more deaths sooner.

It is entirely possible that even if those two cases in CA and the handful of other new cases popping up have no connection to China, they do have a connection to Mexico (note the careful wording of the CA officials). That would have delayed the transmission by a couple of weeks. But maybe we contained the virus coming from China (only to be screwed by the Dems’ open borders agenda).

With lower smoking rates and lower (vastly) levels of pollution we should have better results than Italy, S. Korea and especially Iran and China.

However, all is speculative until widespread testing occurs.

“From your source: The 1918 flu pandemic, which lasted nearly two years, killed more than 500,000 Americans, historians estimate
- with no vaccine, I think we could hit that number again”

There were a lot of things other than a vaccine not available in 1918......like antibiotics to fight pneumonia which caused a majority of the Spanish flu deaths.

. I would not doubt there are a lot of infections baking in the Bay Area and the oven timer is about to go “DING.”

LA is near the same Chinese population as the Bay area. To he honest I won’t be visiting the Chino Hills Costco or the 99 Asian market for my Ramen fix any time soon.

It killed 50 million people worldwide, or about a third of the world's population.

3 percent.

“How do you test for a disease that about sixty people have out of a population of 330 million.?”

60 KNOWN cases.

We have no idea what the actual numbers are.

And the answer to your question is easy.
You start testing. First you start by testing communities with significant Chinese and Korean populations. Then you expand it to cities with a large number of foreign students at university. Then you test cities with major air links to China, SK, Italy. Then you start testing all patients with significant respiratory symptoms who test Flu negative.

The testing kits are probably made in China so don’t hold your breath until we get more of them over here.
