Begs a lot of questions as to why Bloomberg got into this race in the first place. What issues , base of support, does he have in the Democratic party? What is the reason for his candidacy? Is he just skirting campaign finance regulations since he’s spending unlimited amounts of his own money on his own campaign, and can do so as long as he’s a declared candidate? Is it perhaps that simple? Does he have a big ego?

You think he had a GOP constituency before he ran for mayor? He ran because he wanted to be mayor. He’s running now because he wants to be president.

Marcus Crassus had no constituency in Rome. But he was the richest man there and probably the richest man the world has ever known. So he ran for consul. Without that consulship, no one would ever have heard of Crassus. But because of it, every student of Roman history has heard of him. His defeat at Carrhae actually made him even more famous. That’s the thing about politics - you want to elevate your name for posterity - nothing works as well as high political office.

Can you name a politician who doesn't?

Raises, not begs.

Question begging is a specific act, the doer of which violates the laws of logic.

“Regrettably, Mr. Smith, by saying what you’re saying, you merely beg the question, and prove nothing...”
