First, you are comparing an entire years worth of a virus—with known vaccines—and comparing it to a new virus with no known vaccine.
You are comparing the impact of a disease that is well known and prepared for every year. Now through a more contagious and longer hospitalization on top of your flu.
Finally, China has had the same flu as the US since...we’ll, since forever.
If this is nothing more than the flu..explain why 750 million people are under travel restrictions AND 60 million people are lacked down. The largest quarantine in human history.

You are correct that it’s an inane comparison.
The flu infected nearly 50 million in the US this last year. It had an R naught of approximately 1.1. And a mortality of approximately .08%.
This corona virus has an R naught of approximately 2.5 and a Mortality something above 1%, with many studies putting it over 2%.
That’s why CDC is saying community spread is inevitable. And at R 2.5, once it’s in the wild it will spread rapidly.
Just what is 2% of 50 million?
