So, lets just use your example to demonstrate how this is like the flu.
First, you are comparing an entire years worth of a viruswith known vaccinesand comparing it to a new virus with no known vaccine.
You are comparing the impact of a disease that is well known and prepared for every year. Now through a more contagious and longer hospitalization on top of your flu.
Finally, China has had the same flu as the US since...well, since forever.
If this is nothing more than the flu..explain why 750 million people are under travel restrictions AND 60 million people are lacked down. The largest quarantine in human history.
I get that you dont give a f about Chinese people. But tell me youve ever seen a country that large, effectively shut itself down. Completely?
So, compare it to the flu. Whatever.
But do so many posters here seem desperate for everyone to be terrified of the coronavirus?
You need to just bypass that idiot and the flu posts. He probably just lost a ton of money in the markets and cannot afford to be prepared should this take off in our country.
It’s hilarious that these folks are calling people who prepare fear mongers. We won’t be scrambling like they will if this becomes an issue here. They however will be just like the urban dwellers facing the barrel of a gun wandering to the wrong house to pilfer items for survival.
“So, compare it to the flu. Whatever.”
You are correct that it’s an inane comparison.
The flu infected nearly 50 million in the US this last year. It had an R naught of approximately 1.1. And a mortality of approximately .08%.
This corona virus has an R naught of approximately 2.5 and a Mortality something above 1%, with many studies putting it over 2%.
That’s why CDC is saying community spread is inevitable. And at R 2.5, once it’s in the wild it will spread rapidly.
Just what is 2% of 50 million?
Inane comparison.
