I retired to the mountains of Chiriqui which feature springlike weather year-round. If you’d rather have an ocean breeze, Panama has some lovely beach communities, mostly on the Pacific side. Then there’s Panama City if you insist on the bussle of city life. Outside of the mountains, it can be hot and steamy. Aside from Panama City, your cost of living here is much less than in the States. For retirees like me who are on a fixed Social Security plus pensions, it makes all the difference. I couldn’t live this way back in the States.

The ex-pat areas have some English-speakers but you really should learn Spanish if you’re going to spend any time here. One of the best parts of living here is that the currency is the Bolivar which is tied one-to-one with the American dollar so your greenbacks are welcome everywhere here without the need for exchange rates or calculating funny money conversions.

For me, personally, association with an English-language church is essential and I’ve found a good one here.
