Los Angeles Times film critic Justin Chang said Friday on CNN that President Donald Trump mentioning the movie Gone With the Wind at his rally was a racist dog whistle.
Chang said, Its kind of unfortunate, I think, that we have a president whose entire presidency is founded on xenophobia and of course his comments are not surprising coming from someone who likes to dehumanize people of other cultures and people of color. So none of thats surprising.
He continued, Well, that whole thing, Gone with the Wind and Sunset Boulevard, that all smacks of a dog whistle hearkening back to an earlier era of Hollywood greatness. Look, we can love Gone with the Wind, and also acknowledge its the romantic view of the old South, which many people find problematic. That is another racist dog whistle as well.
He added, I think its real laziness on his part. He is just someone who is very lazy. I think to say that. You know, a lot of people say this, there are no movies being made in the present today that are as good as the classics that were made 50 or 60 years ago. And its totally fine that Trump is, you know, out of touch with popular culture. You know, he has or should have better things to do like running the country, but he really should think twice about speaking about things of which he is so woefully ignorant.

Chang is nothing more than a southern California educated user that sensationalized this article for the agenda of the left. He has represented lib organizations for his whole career starting in 2004 when he graduated college and went to work for Variety. He currently is a “film critic,” in other words gives his opinion on something, for the LA Times and is a contributor to NPR on Film Week and Fresh Air. Everything he does and has ever done, has been left slanted. He is a waste of space concerning politics and his efforts to classify historical based films with racism is a product of trying to change history. Shame even factual history isn’t good enough for his likes. He needs to learn to live with it, not try to destroy it and all that can be adult enough to live with it.

The last movie I enjoyed was Forrest Gump. I saw parts of two movies after that and was disgusted by both fifteen minutes in and walked out.

Hes a racist...youre a racist...were all racists...(yawn)...
Great Movie, I liked this scene the best.
So ridiculous. Many of the main characters were black, and they were more decent than most of the whites in the movie.
No, its an idiot whistle. It makes idiots react.
......................................
Correct, and Chang is at the top of the list of such idiots.
Frankly my dear, Trump doesn’t give a damn.
Yup. She won best supporting actress.
Didn’t Hattie McDaniel say that she refused to portray caricatures of black behavior like eating watermelon? I believe Selznick kept all that nonsense out of his movie.
It was a great movie, and a better book.
I had never been to a movie until I was about 22 (Baptist P.K.). GWTW was playing at one of the theaters in the early ‘70s and I went with my girlfriend from work. It was maybe the second movie I ever saw in a theater. It almost took my breath away.
No one has ever described President Trump as lazy.
Such a contrast to his predecessor who was often depicted in the press as actually having a halo.
And Sunset Boulevard is a fantastic film. Worth watching for the tenth time.
Is Les Enfants du Paradis racist, too?
One of my favorite movies. The Charisma, love and hate with Charlotte and Rhett, was incredible acting.
GWTW is my favorite movie and I am not a racist. Hate these people.
He is saying white people are too stupid to know what they want and, since jOkeass is half white, we really need is a real black person, we need Mooch as Pres__ent for Life. She can tell us what to do and how to eat better.
Well, Justin, it takes a dog to recognize a dog whistle. Here boy!
4 hour movie and Vivian Leigh is in almost every scene...when i first watched the movie, it was nothing like i thought it would be...she was just amazing.
I thought Gone With the Wind was an overly long chick flick, disguised as a war movie.
I liked Das Boot. Only in German with English sub titles.
