Republican strategist Kimberly Klacik said after winning the primary election to run for the late congressman Elijah Cummings’s old seat in Baltimore that she won because of her “grassroots efforts," and she added that some of President Trump’s policies will help her historically blue district.
“What I try to remind people is if you take a look at President Trump — take a look at prison reform, First Step Act, he’s actually just rewinding and fixing what was broken with that crime bill that led to so much mass incarceration that you really see in the greater Baltimore area,” Klacik said on Fox News.
“For the past year or so, I’ve been going around in communities and talking to people. I believe I won the primary off of those grassroots efforts,” she added.
Klacik was asked about polling that showed an increase in Trump’s approval rating, and she responded by saying she agreed with CNN personality Van Jones’s comments that Trump’s State of the Union address could resonate with black voters.
“For so long, Democrats have taken the black vote for granted. I remember after Hillary Clinton lost in 2016, she spent two years traveling the country trying to figure out why she lost, but it is because they don’t actually go into the black community and talk to people, or they make promises they don’t keep,” Klacik said.

She would be a great addition to the House.
That is what I generously call fake hope. She doesn’t even have a 1% chance. This one is an easy call.
If she connects with the voters, she can win, this has happened before.
She is out earning their vote
The democrats just take their vote for granted
People notice this.
And that community is tired of only mattering when it is election time.
We need to expand our base, Trump’s base is beyond rural Americans, his message works for suburbanites and urban America as well.
And if she does lose in the end, it still would have caused the dems to blow loads of money on a race that should have been an easy win.

It really needs to happen. The cities need to try SOMETHING ELSE. Well, NYC needs to go back to what it was doing until it elected that communist. But look at these places that haven’t had an R mayor for decades, and they’re falling apart. I mean COME ON, can’t the Rs at least go in and present a plan?

Isn’t this the district where the corrupt Kweisi Mfume is making his political comeback as the Dem candidate? I thought I read something here on FR within the past week about it and being surprised the candidate wouldn’t be a member of the Cummings family.
Kweisi Mfume is “royalty” in Baltimore. That’s why he prevailed in the ‘RAT primary.

She won the Republican primary, yes, with over 4k votes. Unfortunately Mfume won the Democrat primary with 29k votes.
Democrat primary totals approximately 65k votes. Republican primary totals approximately 10k votes.
In 2018, Cummings won, 202k-56k (77%-21%).
In 2016, Cummings won, 238k-69k (75%-22%).
The special election between Klacik and Mfume will be held April 28, the same day as the Maryland presidential primary. The presidential race may be over by then or not. If not, I would expect fairly heavy Democrat turnout.
Bigger is better, and she apparently shows that!
I think if nothing else, hope she wins, but she is practicing for perhaps Senate run, Lt Gov perhaps or spot in 2020 Trump admin.
