[Bloomberg is a whiny nanny state midget.]

From the liberal and moderate* perspective, Trump is a [fill-in-the-blanks-with-every-caricature-of-the-GOP-you-can-think-up]. Compared to that, Bloomberg is the Democrats’ man on a white horse - its Napoleon without the world-conquering impulse.

The thing about Bloomberg is that he not only has plenty of cash, he knows how to deploy cash and how to manage people. That is what differentiates him from Steyer the billionaire fund manager. NYC had a 350,000 city employee headcount that was almost completely unionized when Bloomberg was mayor, so he understands how to either get their support or work past their opposition. That’s how he got 3 terms as mayor in spite of lacerating attacks from the city’s formidable Democratic machine.

* A moderate is someone whose default view is “a pox on both their houses”. That’s someone who likes low taxes but is pro-abortion. Who likes low crime but thinks the death penalty should be abolished.
