You can also work your way up in a company in networking then have Office 365 come along and the new big boss fires half the people because microsoft is doing the support.
Nevermind outages that take longer to resolve or people assigned a wrong license and cannot even get their email or write a Word doc or you go to do something in Outlook and it says ‘Not responding’ and it is not your 200mb connection that is slowing things down but the microsoft servers.
OMG! I was hired at a company that had the same infrastructure. The only addition was a CFO that demanded he be able to use his Apple computer. Luck had it that I had a good team under me for the day to day chores and I could concentrate on the CFO and keep him happy, which ensured job security for all.
Yup, it’s good when the higher ups realize that it’s the network that allows the transactions that make the money. We had upper level managers that really appreciated what we did, provided the funding needed to keep us current, and every once in a while, would ask the bankers to cut us some slack.
Like I said, best I.T. job I ever had.
