I like the Helmet version of "Custard Pie" much better than I like most of the Zep catalog, but ironically, I tend to like some of the quieter Zep originals better than their bigger sound stuff. Also, I generally prefer the original blues songs to Zep's ripoffs (including Brownie and Sonny's "Custard Pie", for that matter).
I’m not fond of Zeppelin’s blues-if I’m going to listen to rock/blues, I like Aerosmith’s “What it Takes”, “Crazy”, etc-Steven Tyler wails the blues just right.
My parents listened to both C&W and Rock, and my mom was into blues, too-I liked Patsy Cline’s “Crazy”, and Lenny Welch’s “Since I Fell For You” when I was a kid-my mom and I used to sing along with the radio-she called those “torch songs”-a term I hadn’t heard before-I just liked the songs...
