Getting rid of the H1B visa program and the programs like it will do so much more to help veterans than legislating new laws to help out the veterans. Now companies are demanding more from US citizens than just a resume and skill. The last job interview I went on they wanted two supervisory references and two coworker references. If you did not have them, they stopped the interview and told you to kiss off (paraphrasing) politely. Then they complained they could not find any skilled employees and needed H1B visas to fill the position. I know they don’t vet them nearly as hard as they do the Vets or other US Citizens. I know for a fact GE does not even check up on references or past work experiences of H1B employees they have hired.
