This isn’t even good money-making. People don’t get to know the contenders, so they kill the narrative, WITHOUT adding to the number of fans, since you can only watch one game at a time.
If they’re going to keep three divisions, go back to one wild-card team, 8 total playoff teams. (One-game playoffs were also a stupid idea.)
The season is long enough as it is.
I know the arguments for keeping 162 games in the regular season, relating to season statistics and records. But how much do statistics and records matter?
For example, we may never see another pitcher win 300 games in a career, because of limits on pitch counts and expanded pitching staffs. So how meaningful would it be to keep a sacrosanct 162 games to make such comparisons?
