I’ve never been on a cruise and I have no intention of ever going on one.
I have friends that love cruises but I’d never do one. Weather is always a factor and a sweeping illness seems fairly rare but when it happens it’s devastating. No thanks
Who in the right mind is going on a cruise now? Even without the Coronavirus every other freakin’ ship gets Norovirus.
Cruise ships are like spending a week rolling around in a dirty diaper ...
That’s it - no ‘chum cruises’ for me!
Has anyone found any stats on how the cruise industry is being financially effected by these various illnesses?
The cruise lines need to have a quarantine period for passengers and crew before they set sail.
Two big cruise ship stocks are Carnival (symbol CCL) and Royal Caribbean (symbol RCL). They’re doing ok, although off a bit from their highs, unsurprisingly.
I’d expect them to take a big hit if a couple more cruise ships get quarantined like the Diamond Princess, and especially if new cases keep popping up after the supposed original incubation period. That would indicate transmission while in quarantine, and the public might get the idea that they could get trapped on a diseased ship for a long, long time. That would tank their business and their stocks, which would lead to a buying opportunity down the road.
Got diarrhea in my shoes
It’s no use layin’ here pukin’ the blues
So be my guest, you got nothin’ to lose
Won’t you let me take you on a puke cruise
Heave, Heave-ee, baby
Heave, Heave-ee, baby
Heave, Heave-ee, baby
Won’t you let me take you on a puke cruise
I actually looked at prices for cruises the other day. Prices have plummeted. Some as low as $300.00 for a 4 or 5 night cruise. 7 day cruises are going for around $500.00 and up. All depends on cabin type and of course destination.
Not that's there's anything wrong with that!
There are millions of cases of norovirus every year, it isn’t exclusive to cruise ships. It’s everywhere people congregate, schools theaters etc..
The people who catch it are the ones who don’t wash their hands. The cruise ship employees rarely get it cause they are trained to wash their hands. You can go on dozens of cruises and never catch it, even the cruises that have dozens of passengers with it. Norovirus isn’t a good reason to avoid cruising in my opinion, there are others depending on what you like
Somehow, every time I envision the name up on the bow, they all morph into "Titanic".
Note to self — stick with lasagna.
I WILL NEVER GET ON A CRUISE SHIP! Those things are floating petrie dishes of germs and nasty stuff.
My husband, who HATES cruises had to go on a work related one recently. This was right when everything was starting with the Japanese cruise ship. I was pretty nervous. He did not do any touristy stuff, mostly sat by himself, in the sun, reading, etc. he sat away from people. He washed his hands raw. Were even being careful here, using different bathrooms, keeping a bit of distance for the next few weeks. Theres just too much we dont know.
I’ve been on two cruises and enjoyed both trips. But, now I realize....it’s just a roll of the dice.
I have been on two. Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Both were fantastic and highly recommended. There have been some high profile incidents that catch headlines but the industry is in the business to make folks happy and they do a tremendous job.
I love cruising! So much fun. Thank god we have never gotten sick.
