That part is hard for me, too, and I’ll never be a minimalist. I mean, who’s ever seen a minimally decorated cottage? ;-)

But I’ve also held on to things that I wasn’t sure about because we moved from a modern, open-concept house to a many small rooms cottage-type house.

Hubby and I both have lots of interests and some of those things require space for storage or work/hobbies.

Also, we have no attached garage which is another challenge.

It’s taken a lot of figuring and bookshelves (never enough of those!) but, finally!, we’ve got all rooms and furniture arranged in a way that works well.

Honestly, I love living in an old cottage but some might not because it has its quirks and, certainly, it has its inconveniences.
