Dee and Suzette started dating in 1976, shortly after he joined Twisted Sister. Back then it was a glam band in the androgynous mold of the New York Dolls. Dee had expressed admiration for a turquoise mesh top Suzette had. So she wore it to one of his gigs.
“She walks in the club, looks at the stage and I’m wearing the same top,” he recalls. “I’m all excited. She was mortified. It’s one thing if you walk in and another girl is wearing the same top as you. But imagine if you walk in and your boyfriend is wearing your outfit.”
