Keep in mind that the Libertarian Party Platform includes:

1. Borderless country - “free flow of people and goods”. As copied from their current prettified platform:

“Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial capital across national borders.”

2. Legalization of ALL drugs.

“...we favor the repeal of all laws creating “crimes” without victims, such as gambling, the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes..”

3. Legalized prostitution.

“The Libertarian Party supports the decriminalization of prostitution. We assert the right of consenting adults to provide sexual services to clients for compensation, and the right of clients to purchase sexual services from consenting sex workers.”

4. Legalized abortion up until birth.

“Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.”

5. Legalization of all forms of pornography, with no limits or restraints as to where, when, who, what, how disseminated. They have left this out of their platfrom but it used to be clearly stated. It is clear from a discrning reading of their platrom.

6. No death penalty:

“We oppose the administration of the death penalty by the state.”

lj, there are some incredibly disgusting things in the republican platform, too. One chooses a party because it has a lot of what you like. Not because you applaud extremists. I would never be an official libertarian because they do have extremists writing platforms. And I ignore the garbage in the republican platform and take from it what I think makes the world a better place. And Trump. Now it has Trump. And suddenly the world glows. Do you really subscribe to everything in a platform? The official party really wrote everything that was already in your head?

That blasphemous platform of theirs is radical and probably what Cletus was addressing, exactly. That is worse than “free will socialism”, from my perspective.

I was just attempting to put some “lipstick on the pig”, trying to account for those who may proclaim they are “Libertarian”, but are hopefully just vastly ignorant, but not so bloody ruthless as that platform from hell suggests. Otherwise, Libertarians are altogether a tribe of communistic tyrants, and utterly soulless.

That Lib platform was worse than the Democrat Platform. Didn’t they (Libs) wind up having to clean that radical stink tome of theirs up? I was thinking I read that, here.

Personally, I think the problem with Libertarians (and Ive seen it CA) is that they’re not Libertarians, but socialists (of all/whatever stripe) that are filling a niche market for creating a strong subgroup of dependents.

The party is an easy party for progressives to weasel into and curry the votes of republicans and independents that like to smoke weed occasionally.

If they were true to their core belief, they’d be strong 2A supporters, support the exile to an island from society of anyone convicted of death penalty level crime, be totally anti abortion, totally 100% backed money, etc...

There are just to many direct contradictions in their ideology to take them seriously. No killing evil humans, but kill babies. No border control while we all get a figurative gun to our heads to pay for taking care of the arrivals and on and on.
