Elizabeth Warren Has Latched Onto the Issue That's Beneath All the Others (corruption)

**SNIP**

“The good news is that I have the biggest anti-corruption plan since Watergate,” she said. “The bad news is that we need the biggest anti-corruption plan since Watergate. These problems, this corruption, started long before Donald Trump became president."

"Some of the things we can do quietly. But that anti-corruption plan, there’s no way to do that quietly. We can’t keep doing this as a country. The one good thing about Donald Trump is that he’s got everybody off the sidelines. We run against that corruption. We run against the most corrupt administration in the history of this country. Have you been watching these trials? At the center of the whole thing was an ambassador [Gordon Sondland], and how did he get to be an ambassador? He had no qualifications, except that he cut a check to Donald Trump’s inaugural committee for a million dollars. He bought a public office. That is the height of corruption.”

What exactly is this mass corruption that Trump is allegedly guilty of?

Aren’t all ambassadors to “desirable” embassies like London, Paris, Berlin etc (ie. non-shithole countries) always given to contributors/supporters of the President? One I can think of off of the top of my head is Caroline Kennedy ambassador to Japan during the last administration.

A quick google search reveals: “Matthew Winthrop Barzun (born October 23, 1970) is a former United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom. He is a business executive who is known for his work with CNET Networks and for his volunteer work on Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden from 2009 to 2011.

"He bought a public office. That is the height of corruption."

One of Bloomberg's most potent arguments is that he's funding his own campaign, and is therefore beholden to no special interests. That was also a big part of Trump's message, who campaigned with his own money and that of small donors.

The alternative is to be funded by special interests, and that is also considered corrupt. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Warren's message: Whatever I do is ok, whatever my opponents do is corrupt.

But don’t major donors or supporters get rewarded with plum jobs like that...ambassador to the Bahamas, etc...

Many hires have been real head scratchers. It’s my only complaint about Trump’s administration.

You can only hire people who want the job.
