what to do when the post office won't deliver
02012020 | self

Posted on 02/01/2020 10:14:12 AM PST by cableguymn

The post office has decided they will no longer bring packages to our home because it's to far from the road. They will only bring items they think will fit in my mailbox (and so far, they think none of them will)

I'm not really in the mood to run 20 miles one way to get a package.

when you google "large mail box" or what ever you get cardboard boxes. when I actually find something that will accept a decent sized package its 3-700 bucks. I would assume if it's not an official mailbox (approved and all) they won't use it.

I'm open to suggestions as to how to address this. The carrier says his hands are tied. he is no longer allowed to drive up my driveway.

I’d have my stuff sent to the neighbors ;)

Sadly everyone on my road is having the same problem.. we are all 250+ feet from the road.

it’s also ebay, walmart, target kohls...

I could go on.

many places don’t give you a choice (ebay sometimes does depending on the seller)

Not True!
Walmart always uses FEDEX to deliver my things.
And Ebay gives the option for ups on all the things i have bought.

Your lucky.

Here Walmart uses smart post.

Ups hauls it to USPS for last mile delivery

If you pay shipping on eBay you “generally “ get a choice. When you use the free shipping they send it who ever is cheapest

We have FReepers who complain they don’t have enough governmental workers coming hundreds of feet into their private property each day.

Bizarre.

Been out west hunting and fishing. Noticed that many ranches have looooong lanes from the highway back to the ranch house, but a mailbox out at the highway. Have also noticed that some of them have beside the regular mailbox, a 55 gal. drum, lying on its side. The drum has been cut in half lengthwise, with hinges welded in place to allow the top half to open like a clamshell. I assume they get a lot of mail order pkgs, which the mail carrier obliges by using the drum.

That’s a nice mailbox! If everyone had a box like that, 95% of problems would be gone.

We have two neighbors who live on a long dead end off and out of our street. One family lives past a locked gate that resembles a sandbag bumper. Their large mailbox was outside the gate. It was not approved by the US Mail system.

Both families were told that if they didn’t have the boxes installed, there would be no delivery.

They bought the big lock mail boxes from Amazon and hired a handy man to mount them. The boxes actually cost less than the mounting gear and hiring the guy to install them. The total costs ended up at about $500/box.

Our regular postman had no problems, but his substitutes refuse to go up the long narrow and curvy driveway because they had to back up to get out.

Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of, but considering it’s a gov’t agency, not surprising.

How about a gravel circle up by the house? Less lawn to mow...

Yeah, because no one wants to save money!

Bought a quart of oil at auto parts store (popular chain) and it was $11. I did it because it my vehicle was in need. Twice. First and last. Went home and checked Amazon. $22 for 5 quarts! There’s a reason that Amazon was up $138/share yesterday.

My son lives on a street of brownstones in Troy, N.Y. Because all packages were left on the front stoop, there were thefts, so he ended up getting a box at UPS, and has all packages sent there. They notify him when he has a package, and on his way home from work, he stops there to pick it up.

I live on the second floor of a two story building if you don't count the garden apartments. The sub carrier who knows me always brings my packages to my door. The regular guy whom I've never seen, and other subs have sometimes left my packages in the front hall. There is no locked entrance to the building. The sub told me the postal service doesn't want them doing more than just the minimum, ie., climbing stairs to leave packages. He won't do that, so he delivers packages to the doors on the Q.T. I gave him a Visa gift card this past Christmas, because he's even checked on me when I hadn't gone downstairs for a few days to get my mail out of the locked mailbox.

Have everybody understand that UPS or FedEx are your only mail & package carriers... Fedex & UPS may go the extra miles for you... Chuck Noland did...

We will sometimes arrange to meet the carrier down by the road. Otherwise, drive to the PO when you receive packages.

UPS,FedEx don’t fear my driveway. 0.6 miles of mud currently
