Something made them look at this. Very early on. And isolate these patients and do genomic studies in what was infecting them.
The fact that they’ve lost BL3 SARS viruses from a BL3 level facility in china before gives me pause...the bat soup is too convenient since, genomically, it doesn’t look like bat was the immediate precursor to this. But there IS a BL4 lab just across the way...

Interesting.
Is this man Han Chinese? Is he really ‘recovering’ or simply hanging out until more serious symptoms set in?
Not the doctors. The labs that get the blood samples. If the lab saw something it could not identify, I’d think they’d have it looked into further.
You seem to think they are all morons or something. To the contrary, most of the Chinese professionals or well educated persons I’ve met are dang smart, and usually inquisitive sorts to boot.
As for looking for things like this, given the history of epidemics in China, heck, yes. Regardless of where the B4 lab is.
End of the week? Why so long? We are so woefully unprepared for this. This virus is 20 steps ahead of our health agencies.

The labwork doesn’t work like that.
They have specific tests. If nothing hits those they don’t look further normally.
I do NOT think they’re morons.
SOMETHING caused them to single out THESE patients EARLY on.

From what I’ve seen, this was NOT the hospital for ‘party officials’. Which means it operated more like our VA. How long do you think it would take the VA to sort something like this out in the middle of flu season?
IMHO there’s a screening process (not lab or genetic) In Wuhan and likely sourrounding towns/cities to detect patients who MIGHT be sick with something that lab works on...And once it was detected, sampled, and sequenced and the epidemiology determined...the CCP absolutely went nuts with quarantines/etc.
CCP/PLA has ‘lost’ SARS (BL3 variety) from BL3 labs before. In the past couple of years IIRC. It’s not w/o precedent this is also an escapee...

The US says it offered help in the beginning of January.
Didn’t the quarantines start several weeks after that?
If anything, it would seem that Chinese officials were slow to react.
Perhaps they did so because the US and others already knew about the problem.
The data in the Lancet paper was taken in December.
Supposedly the chicoms noticed it earlier than that.
Likely we’ll never know. Anyone who was ‘at fault’ has probably ‘retired’ to ‘the wall’.
It’s like they think the Germans are idiots.
A clear example of asymptomatic tertiary transmission outside of China. But hey, WE haven’t seen that so that information is suspect. Or something. Because Germany is a 3rd world banana republic or something.
