Re 333 - great link, and thanks for posting. Not liking the implications much but it’s still tentative - there’s a RNA segment there that isn’t supposed to be there. If I understood that correctly on the first reading, it allows the beastie to bind with the same receptors in human epithelial cells that the SARS virus did. That is not to say the genome sequence is identical but it’s more than a little disturbing. I was skeptical about the possibility of this thing being engineered because who would be that stupid? Now I really have to wonder.

Yes, but your precepts may not apply. I would not be at all surprised to find that the young and middle aged would sacrifice themselves, or other young and middle aged, or insist on such, to try to save their elders.

In a way that makes sense even without the elder veneration factor. If a healthy 40 y/o old and his / her father both need treatment, and only one can get it, the best chance of both surviving is for the 40 y/o to go without the treatment.

Further, to address a notion that’s been spouted off around FR the last several days: The idea that the Chinese people of 2020 would tolerate killing off a big chunk of their own senior population for population reduction is poppycock.
