“As a result of this new policy, will be more difficult for CT to raise my property taxes much further.”

Don’t count on that.

Indeed. We left family and friends behind. Quit our jobs and had to start a whole new life in a place where we knew no one.

I’m seeing a lot of California license plates with ‘Bernie’ stickers on them in my neighborhood.

Some of my in-laws who live in PA put their (beautiful large but un-modernized) house up at an accesible price..but it actually sold for more, even though the town is a a Dem dump and needs a lotta work. . So, yes, people are looking to move out of high-tax liberal land, where you pay both state income tax and property taxes and get absolutely nothing in return.

Actually what was happening with the federal tax deduction what is that red states were subsidizing blue states. Now we are done doing that. If you don’t like not being able to federally deduct your large state taxes, then vote smarter in your state. Tennessee has a balanced budget and low taxes all around. There’s lots of examples to follow.

“many renters do not make the connection between lower property tax deductions and higher rents. ”

Wow, you have to be kind of stupid not to get that. But I guess the point is that if rents are raised, then it is affecting Democrat voters. Although I don’t buy that the more well-off people in California are all Republicans, the large metropolitan cities wouldn’t be so blue if that was true. You’ve got lots of unskilled and untalented people making money in Hollywood, as an example!

My husband and I travel across Texas because of our children and I can vouch I have seen many many California license plates streaming along the highway stacked up to their gill with their belongs! Many are heading towards San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston.. not Austin because it's just as expensive as California so they try to avoid Austin unless if you're a homeless person that's the place to go...compliments of their mayor! Now listen to this ...ALL the liberals need to turn Texas into a VA blue is the total of 9 seats!! Think about it folks..9seats!! Once those seats flip consider TEXAS lost!! Texasans will be ROYALLY SCREWED!! PLEASE ENCOURAGE ANY friends who live in Texas to GET REGISTERED AND VOTE!!! 2020 is in the hands of those who turn out to vote!! DON'T LET your friends sit OUT THIS ELECTION!!! OBTW! If you want to discourage dingbat communist snowflakes ❄️ from voting for sanders or AOC..just tell them if they vote they will be automatically added on the summons to jury duty list and watch how fast they tear up that registration cardy ! 😂

Outside of Austin, our property taxes are nearing 4 months of income for a dinky old house. Four generations and it was supposed to be my last home but can’t afford it thanks to the Californians invading and jacking up the prices.

and it effectively means his family can’t afford to stay in their home. “””

That scenario is exactly what led to Prop 13 in California in 1978.

That $10,000 Cap pissed off a whole bunch of People who otherwise would have supported Trump and Republicans.

“I left the DFW TX area after forty years partly because of the outrageous property taxes and the ever increasing cost of living in the metro area.”

Yea, Texas sure has REALLY NICE, and new schools, along with HUGE stadiums. The property tax system, which allows huge increases in taxes paid by homeowners without even a vote of any elected officials, gets all the ‘credit’ for that, and is PROTECTED by Democrats, along with a decent amount of ‘owned’ Republicans here.

I guess for now, the rural residents outnumber the city residents . I hope it stays tha way, because without Texas will never get a republican president again. It’s the same in Tennessee, except we only have three large cities and they’re not overly huge either. Lots more rural dwellers. We wanted acreage so that’s why we moved here. The things that city people might call inconveniences I enjoy. Like the occasional power outage. It’s like a mini prepping. I hear if you have acreage in Texas and you raise something, you get a pretty nice tax break.

“CA taxes were punitive. So if they’re paying more they’re being economically gang raped.”

It’s hard to pay more in taxes in Texas than in California, but if someone INSISTS on living in a $1M house in Texas with a relatively moderate income, then yes, it is possible.

But then, again, ONLY because of easy-to-control choices they made.

Finally, someone gets to the meat of the matter.

Property taxes are basically unconstitutional because they eliminate our right to the ownership of private property. The government can take away your home because you don’t pay taxes on it you don’t own your home. And you never will.

Why does the government love property taxes? Because the last thing that people are willing to give up is their homes. It’s really no more complicated than that.

What property taxes are too high? All property taxes are too high because they should never exist.

Tennessee is great indeed, except they do have the highest sales tax in the entire USA! That can be a burden for many folks.

But at least no state income tax.

“Not Trump’s fault that CT has decided to punish successful people with these onerous property taxes.”

I’m glad to see that you see it the way it is, and not the liberal excuse that somehow Trump is raising federal taxes. It’s Simple math!

And I hadn’t thought of that other side effects, that raising taxes more in those states might be difficult now. People will know that there’s no more subsidies from the government for it. Maybe some states will become more financially savvy if they have to live with what they get.

“The ones being hurt are Republicans who have larger mortgage payments and can no longer deduct them from their federal taxes.”

There may be a few, but the REDDEST areas of California are inland, with much lower housing costs. The coasts are LOADED with Leftists, as election after election shows.
