FYI: This is done every couple of years, and involved the Johns Hopkins Univ.
Before 911, they did a simulation for a biowar outbreak of smallpox, and they do similar “war game” type simulations every couple of years.
one result of the DarkWinter exercize is that after 911, when there was real fear about smallpox release by Iraq, the protocols on how to do ring vaccinations etc. were in place (I was the one at our federal clinic tasked to read the instructions since I had worked with public health in Africa).

SARS isn't the only coronovirus outbreak: MERS caused some cases in the Middle East but luckily didn't spread far.
In some ways, Ebola is easier to control: What is the real worry is airborne infection that goes person to person. Which is what Wuhan pneumonia is doing right now.
These simulations are similar to war games we did in the National Guard... and they are also like the mass casualty simulations we did every year or two at our hospital. To be prepared just in case.

What do you think about the "Coincidence" of the first BSL-4 facility in China being in Wuhan? I believe there was an infection escaping from a Soviet bioweapons lab years ago, and of course there have been other casualties from such facilities.
