History is still taught in schools—but since it is not considered important enough to test for, it is not emphasized. As a history teacher at one point I was told that my main focus should be in helping math and reading scores. I figured I helped the reading scores by trying to convince the kids to actually read the history book.

Anyway, swastikas are still a favorite thing to carve into a desk top. Very few are done well—they aren’t easy to get right. Teenagers have always loved to shock their elders and a swastika on a paper or desk is sure to get attention. Most, as you imply have no idea of why it gets the reaction it does.

That actually is the only history they teach. Nazis bad and maybe even under your bed. Year after year.

Actually my kids --recent graduates-had pretty decent history classes. Surprisingly excellent American history teachers taught by patriots who love the country.
