A man shot and killed by a Los Angeles Police Department sergeant who was responding to reports of a man with a gun on the border between Culver City and Los Angeles Palms neighborhood was holding a bicycle part in his hand when he was shot, not a gun, as initially believed by the officer and witnesses, police said Friday.
The police shooting took place about 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the area of South Sepulveda Boulevard and South Venice Boulevard, LAPD said in a written statement. A supervisor assigned to the LAPDs Pacific Patrol Division identified by the department as Sgt. I Colin Langsdale was the first to arrive at the scene where witnesses reported seeing an armed man.

Yes. He is.
>> Are you crazy?
Likely.
Starting salary for a LEO should be $250k with a federal restriction on the number of LEOs per region. These LEOs are given the latitude to apply the law as necessary. Should they kill unjustly, they suffer capital punishment — comes with the job.
Unfortunately, most prefer the comfortable gray area where too many get lost in the margins. Cowards in my opinion.

But I appreciate you taking the bait.
But what if it was nitro glycerine?
A gun, yes, quite possibly.
A bike part, in the big vast majority of cases, nope.
There is a lot of variability in quill stems. I was just trying to identify the part. They could both look like pistols from a distance, particularly if they were being held. The handlebar clamp in the photo I posted is complete, unlike the clamp in the police photo.
Yes, but the stem, or ‘goose-neck’ as we called them as kids, that the victim had looks like something a person might carry to simulate a weapon.
Well, don’t take a bicycle part to a gun fight.
Unlike Some, I will wait for more facts to to come out before passing judgment
>> the more it becomes apparent ...
Sadly true.
I think I have one of those laying around, and using it as the dead man did is desperate and foolish, as it can be enough to scare and get oneself shot.
Yes, the image of the quill (vs. threadless) stem that KTLA shows is missing the bolt and pinch wedge-shaped nut and the plate (or whatever its called) that goes over handle bar.

Rule number one pilgrim: dont slap leather unless you intend to fire.
The question is did the officer think his life was in danger and if so was deadly force required.
Split second call that I will not second guess
Wow, 29 posts to say that??? I thought it would be in the first 3. We’re slipping, FReepers.
If the Shooter wasn’t in possession of and dressed in a Magic Blue Costume would it still be considered Justified???
“Consider this... a govt sanctioned individual can kill you for refusing to lower your weapon... thats bullshit. And similar bullshit is becoming a fast reality in VA.”
If some @$$hole was refusing to lower a gun pointed at you, you wouldn’t call it bull shit!
