A Kansas man has asked an Iowa judge to let him engage in a sword fight with his ex-wife and her attorney so that he can “rend their souls” from their bodies.
David Ostrom, 40, of Paola, Kansas, said in a Jan. 3 court filing that his former wife, Bridgette Ostrom, 38, of Harlan, Iowa, and her attorney, Matthew Hudson, had “destroyed (him) legally.” The Ostroms have been embroiled in disputes over custody and visitation issues and property tax payments.
The judge had the power to let the parties “resolve our disputes on the field of battle, legally," David Ostrom said, adding in his filing that trial by combat "has never been explicitly banned or restricted as a right in these United States."
He also asked the judge for 12 weeks' time so he could secure Japanese samurai swords.

It’s certainly preferable to being emotionally and financially raped by a revenge-crazed ex-spouse who filed for divorce because I wasn’t making enough money to support her desired lifestyle ... or maybe just because she had an urge to &%#$ the pool boy.
I’m always polite and proper to women, and I do have a lot of respect for certain married couples of my acquaintance who seem genuinely devoted to each other.
But I’ve had a taste of the sheer insanity many of today’s women are capable of, and I’ve been forced to say ... “that sure ain’t for me.”
And please don’t give me that old “you just haven’t found the right one yet” routine. At my age, it’s not going to happen.
And financially ruin you if you depend upon the respect of your business partners and customers. It’s tantamount to admitting guilt to whatever your challenger accused you of. Back to the days of trial by combat—the pure of heart always wins. I wonder if it just depended on who was better trained or practiced?

If this judge is like most divorce judges, he is probably scratching his head, wondering why ever in the world the ex-wife wants to question this ex-husband’s eligibility for custody. Unsupervised.
