The Milky Way as seen from Acadia National Park, Maine
One of Maine's nicknames is 'Vacationland' and there’s perhaps no better place to get a taste of that than in Acadia National Park. Established in 1916, it's the oldest US national park east of the Mississippi River. It takes up most of Mount Desert Island and a few nearby smaller islands off the Atlantic coast, as well as a portion of the Schoodic Peninsula on the mainland. That's where we're located in our image, taking in the spectacle of the Milky Way with the craggy cliffs, evergreen forest, and calm ocean as our evening companions.
