That’s misleading IMHO.
The problem was Iran couldn’t afford to maintain his foreign forces- the proxies.
It needs that money for i’s people’s economy .
Think of Macarthur or Westmoreland. Supporters of foreign wars that the populace are tired of.
(And one could think of him like Patton. There are plenty of theories about his death.)
The protests in Iran now have at their heart that the regime isn’t giving their people a good economy. It’s very much like our Vietnam War protests only a much more serious thing there.
