I’ve been rooting for Baker Mayfield, too, but he was terrible last season after having a very good rookie season. He was like a completely different QB, holding the ball too long, making bad throws, way too many getting knocked down at the line, and making terrible decisions when he did throw. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that his coach was terrible, even though it was his QB coach the year before. Next year will be very important for him, it will determine if he has a future in the league or is a bust.
The Cleveland job is still a bad job, mainly due to ownership, but I’m also open to a great coach turning things around. It is a good sign that the owners got rid of the GM. The coach they need must have some say in personnel, and ownership needs to hire a strong coach before picking a GM. This is the approach that Washington, another poorly-run franchise, has taken.
Cleveland had horrible coaching. I honestly think even Jason Garrett, if he went there would be a drastic improvement.
