Fed funding for all institutions of higher learning should be cancelled. And public schools should be locally/state funded. That alone would solve many problems.

Fed funding for all institutions of higher learning should be cancelled.

Many universities have government research contracts. But we'd probably all be better off if university research were funded by corporations, corporate consortia (for long-term research of general benefit), and wealthy individuals. Laundering money through the government is wasteful, and creates more social science Ph.D.s than any society needs.
