I always thought it was generally pronounced vahz and, only rarely, the more guttural vAse. But I’ve been told my own accent is bizarre, being influenced by a mother who spent 20 years in NYC before returning to Chicago.

I think Vase is more American, Vahz is more British.

Yes, MA does have some unique accents and ways of bastardizing the English language. Like, “alls I know is”. OMG.
